Travel Advice: W Hotel - London

One of the newest additions of my favorite hotel brand W, is the one located in Leicester Square in London, UK. I will definitely stay in this hotel when I go there soon, even if its location may not appeal to most plus it being far away from my favorite shopping spots. It will be opening on February 14th, 2011.

(Update: Check my stay at the hotel.)

Victoria Cake!

A friend of mine forced me to try this cake that I wasn't a fan of. Its called Victoria Cake or English Cake. She promised I will like this one from Bread Talk though. Ever since I had that first bite I've been recommending it to all. Its really light and airy, a vanilla sponge cake filled with cream and strawberry jam and topped with icing sugar. Now practically everyone I have recommended to always gets it when they're not in the mood to make a cake order. Its either always available because of demand or you won't find any by noon.

Travel Advice: Istanbul Trip

A friend of mine is a die hard Turkish anything fan. Thanks to the Turkish soap operas' world she's been sucked into. So she planned this two week trip to Istanbul, Turkey which she cant stop boasting about. Her love for the country and its people has increased when she came back. She's even planning to go there again soon, with me in tow, Yay! I will be brief.

Her stay was in The Sofa Hotel, a hip contemporary hotel located in the hippest district in Istanbul called Nisantasi. Although I coerced her to stay at W Istanbul or Kempinski Ciragan Palace, she went ahead and booked at The House Hotel, she didn't stay for long because it had no lifts and her companion didn't approve, so they had to look for another accomodation. She swears that this hotel is really nice and has great looking rooms though. The House Hotel has a branch in Nisantasi also. Their cafe, The House Cafe there is popular and nice. They then booked at The Sofa Hotel, and she's happy she did. The district was home to trendy shopping and luxury brands in addition to good cafes and restaurants. She thought she has never came across a hotel with excellent service especially the service given by the information desk, they were extremely helpful.
If you've seen Al Ishq AlMamnou3, characters Muhanad and Samar actually stayed in the "Umar's Suite"!
Things she brought me include Turkish Delights, although I don't like the jello like sweets, this brand is really fancy and everyone should get Turkish Delights as gifts. These are found in Harvey Nichols.
... and Lavender and Patchouli soaps! Now these I adore!

Betty Crocker's Fast Fix

You will find Betty Crocker's Molten Chocolate Cake in The Sultan Center. A mini microwavable ready cake mix container good for one person.

They have it in a bigger version of this hot gooey dessert if you want to create something quick for a gathering.

And the Winner Is....

One dress that have caught my eyes in the 2011 Golden Globe Awards was Anne Hathaway's Armani Prive backless defined shoulder sequin dress! Its B E A U T I F U L! And she looked so elegant in it. And this coming out from someone who hates sequins.  Ayayay!
A similar dress I liked too was Anjelina Jolie's emerald green dress.

Safir Hotel & Residence Al Fintas - Kuwait

A few days ago, we were planning a surprise birthday for one of our friends. We wanted to try somewhere new and in a place we knew would not be crowded. So one of the girls suggested going to Safir Hotel & Residence Al-Fintas, to dine in ChitChat Cafe and to check out this new hotel. I never expected the hotel and the cafe to be this good. The cafe's decor was very stylish! The food, which was light, was also very good. Their juice collection! Their seating! The service!!! And the staff!!! After our dinner and surprise we toured the hotel. The lobby area is so lovely o shar7! All restaurants decors were really nice, that includes Al Roshinah (Kuwaiti Restaurant), Flavors (all day dining & very extravagant buffet), and the lounge. Plus they have a separate building for their residence.

For those of you, who are not from Kuwait, the hotel is a 20 minute drive to the city. Its not that far.

Caramel Bakery- Kuwait

Caramel bakery is a favorite of mine ever since they opened a few years ago in the Salhiya area. I knew the owner's family and we used to have their desserts very often. Everything they had was guaranteed to be good. You may have known them from their ever so famous signature dessert pumpkin cake (which you can get in 3 sizes, normal cake size, saucer size like the one shown in the picture down below, and as mini bites).

Three years ago they moved into their new location in Bneid AlGar, looking into the Gulf Road. The new shop was beautifully designed. They closed last year for renovation and opened, and a few days ago was my first time to get a look at their new bakery. They've gone for shabby chic and I love their wallpaper and cake displays. I even like their packaging so much.

They do birthday cakes. A new addition to their menu. You can choose from their designs on display or give them your own design. It will be marzipan covered. We tried the birthday cake and it was good.

Newest addition: Sweet Potato Cake! I would love to try that.

My recommendations:
Noora Cake (very moist chocolate cake)- Pistachio mini cakes- Pumpkin cake- Double Chocolate Fudge Cake. And many more. Some of these should be made to order a day in advance or at least a few hours before.

Their new menu will be coming out later this month.
Mini pistachio bite cakes, pumpkin cake, and chocolate peanut cake
Chocolate Cake
Berries Cake (vanilla cake with blueberries, raspberries, poppy seeds)
                                                      Chocolate snickers topped Cheesecake
              Pistachio cake
