The Archicture Files 1: Kengo Kuma

I'm very interested in architecture. I already have a plan to what my family house is going to look like a plan minues the measurements (numbers)! I'm good in mathmatics but hate it when it comes to architecture. That is emphasized when I bought my huge modern bed to my tiny rooom! Big mistake! Had to replace it with a smaller version, yet still way too huge for my little room.

I love Japanese inspired architecture. Modern and the traditional. These two concepts really get me mixed up. Why cant we just infuse both into a concept!

Which bring me to a favorite of mine, Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. He's such a perfectionist. Kumo has sixty projects all over the world
His inspiration came from the Olympic stadium designed by Kenzo Tange for the 1964 Games in Tokyo.

Here's a list of some of his projects:
The Great (Bamboo) Wall House- Beijing, China
Tea House- Franfurt, Germany
Lotus House- Japan

Water/ Glass- Atami, Shizuoka

Cha Cha Moon Restaurant- London, England
Ginzen Onsen Fujiya Inn- Yamagata, Japan
Chokkura Plaza- Tochigi, Japan

Congrats Heigl!

Kathrine Heigl and hubby Josh Kelley had gone though adoption as they have said they would. An adorable Korean baby girl. Shes the cutest lil thing. Good for them. Whatever people say, that its a fad that Angelina and Brad had started, I still think its a personal issue and anyone up to it deserves a medal. They're taking kids from orphanages and adoption agencies and giving them a home for heaven sakes! Thats a noble thing.

Isn't she the cutest?!

When I was a kid I have always wanted to adopt a kid! Seriously, my mom always laughed about it and said "gollay 7imdila wilshikir!". I thought it was weird, I was going to give a kid luxeries and a family to share it with, why was that a bad thing? Now when I grew up I understood why. First, it was about the society we were living in. Its rare to see people with an adopted kid. My mom's cousin is the only person I know along with my friend's family friends. Anyways, no one judged my relative because she was married and couldn't concieve. After adopting, she did give birth to a kid sub7anallah. What I'm saying is it would be wierd for a single woman to adopt a girl, people talk. I wouldn't mind their gossip but mind what the kid would go through. Second, religion. I can't adopt a boy, so that gives me a choice of adopting girls only. Then there's the surname, you can't change it to your own. Not that I'd mind again. But what would you tell her later about how she came out to be and that shes an orphan. All that can wait until shes all grown up, but then the shock of you not being her real mother would turn her life upside down.

I'm just theorizing:P Who knows maybe someday I will adopt a girl if I don't get my own. I feel that kids complete a person in life. To be able to take care of your own kid whether from your own flesh and blood or another person's kid is a huge thing. Gives you comfort that you have fulfilled something. You will make someone happy and care for them. Someone to take care of you in the future. Someone you would enjoy your times with. Someone who will grow up to be what you made them to be. Someone who will make you proud. Someone who may be the reason you would end up in heaven.

Whats up with One Vintage?! Everytime I sign into net-a-porter's "What's New", this brand is always sold out same day the pieces come on display! This have been going on for a few months now!

I really like some of their stuff. Not all because I'm not into sequin embroidered chiffon prints. And I wanted to know what's up with the brand and how it came about.

I found out that its net-a-porter's exclusive line that is basically second hand pieces restored to a better condition. There is just one piece of every design and that is why it's calles One Vintage. Figures!

This appeals to me, being a huge fan of anything vintage myself! I currently own dozens of vintage items like clutches, brooches, jewelery, bags, and both casual and formal dresses. These are the kind of things when worn I'm asked about. Even if they cannot be worn like my mom's Chanel and lebenese designer mini dresses I stll keep them, who knows they may come in handy one day.
(these pieces aren't necessarily my style, I like the top and earrings though, and I cant seem to find pictures of the ones I liked)

Brown's Latest Book!

I'm getting a copy! Actually I just ordered the harcover copy from Amazon.

It's Dan Brown's new book. Although I've got more than 50 unread books, books I got from my travels and exhibitions, I'm dying to read his new book. I have read three of his books, The Davinci Code (me a huge Davinci and Louvre fan), Angels & Demons (I'm so into the study of religions), and Digital Fortress.Don't you love fictional/fact mysteries! I do! I'm so imaginative you have no idea.

I have to say I was no fans of the movies based on the books. To me they're the worst and I could think of a million things to add to make especially Angels & Demons into a better movie. I studied this in university. A course that looks onto the differences found on books and movies. The professor was really tough but
I aced it all because of my great love of books since I was a little kid.

The Lost Symbol

Again this is another Robert Langdon mystery. Yay! This book will be looking into the Masons, for you who have read Angels & Demons you may know about this group of people. They are a secret society founded hundreds of years ago, not so secret now. They're made up of the most powerful men around, US presidents are said to have been part of it. Yes they are real just like most topics looked upon on Brown's book. Supposedly the book's events will be taking place in Washington D.C. (I'm expecting a rise in tourism like the one that just happened in the Vatican in Rome, which is never short of visitors) and it will be a 12 hour experience. Ah! Suspence and thriller!

Get your copy now y'all!

Farm Fever

I'm addicted!  I know everyone is. Facebookers I mean.  At first, I thought Farmville was the lamest game anyone was ever hooked to. But my friends were so addicted that I had to know what it was all about. I regreted rejecting anything that came from the application.
It's a very complicated game and needs time to be adjusted to and get to learn the ropes. The aim of the game I guess, is to learn how to collect money (make profit) and use it wisely for future expansion. Its like I'm racing my friends to the end. I'm glad I just have 3 people ahead of me, thats a big leap from the 12 who were when I first started. In three weeks I'm on level 24 and the game will continue until God knows when.  Basically you grow fruits and vegetables and raise animals on your very own farm! You also buy your own buildings and decorations throughout the game.  My addiction got so bad that I found myself waking up at midnight just to check if my crops were still alive! Thats psycho! What more, when I go to a friend's house, I race to their PC to check on my farm! Its hillarious, my friends still tease me about it. I feel too old for this but I'm really enjoying the break from my usual daily activities.
If you still haven't played it, then I order you to;p Especially if you're working in the office and have extra time this will make time fly by so fast! If you study then forget you ever read this post.

Ethnic Collaboration

Its been a while since I wrote, been so busy plus really not in the mood to write!

Pendleton is collaborating with Opening Ceremony to bring us the best of ethnic fall wear for both men and women.

Ethnic Najavo and plaid pieces. This reminds me a lot of Anna Sui, doesn't it?

I'm not much of a Pendleton fan, but anything for Opening Ceremony is in for me!  Love the colorful patterns, a break from fall's dull solid colors. This can be worn anyplace and for any occasion. Can be worn very casually or can paired down with heels (for us ladies) and wear them out for dinner with the girls.

Jellies Yet Again!

I think those are the first jellies I ever really liked and may even get me a pair if I ever come across them. No, wait I liked last year's Marni sandals too (in neon), but hated how everyone alive was wearing them!

Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci, plastic gladiator sandals. They cost $170 (KD 48).

Need an introduction?
Riccardo Tisci, an Italian fashion designer who was appointed creative director of the Haute Couture, ready-to-wear and accessories lines for both women and menswear. A lot of success to his credit.

I still like the gladiator sandals look. Do you?

Girgeean's Over

This year, suprisingly I didn't get a lot of girgeeans. Just four.

I don't mind, its better that way, people squander their money on girgeean for their kids, and hand the goodies to friends and family who may throw them away later. Not me, I keep the sweets' holder or bag, whatever it is, as a keepsake.

Some people are really creative. What I love the most is when the mothers get something practical and could be used by the recievers later. For example this girgeean I recieved from my dear friend. I never recieved one like it although I'm sure you've all seen it before. It's a Moroccan mini tagine. Cute! Very practical! And I love anything Moroccan (now you know why I had the tent made Moroccan). She had November Boutique's sugar cookies included, the one I have mentioned getting from my other friend for her kid's girgeean in an earlier post.

I'de like to share her girgeean with you guys. Thanks S.

Frizz! Police! Don't Move!

My hair is naturally curly and there was a time when I used to get out of the shower, towel dry it, and go out. Everyone loved it that way. But I grew bored and got back to straightening it, and sadly I got hooked on the straightening iron. I couldn't live without it! Together with coloring and highlights, my hair was so damaged and dry,it was impossible to go natural. It was so frizzy and dry with flyaways! I hated it!

Until now! Just in, in Beautybar- A Modern Apothecary, a Kuwaiti beauty online store, is Alterna's Hemp Repair Gloss. This is the first product that I ordered from the store and I'm glad I did. My hair was calling out for help and was in need of a break from all the heating tools that were killing it. Alterna's cream targets split ends (YAY!) and repairs frizzy dry damages hair (double YAY!)!

My curls look gorgeous, more defined now, my sister keeps telling me "don't ever do straight or wavy again"! I think my hair just needs to get a little longer so it'd look even better. But seriously, the repair gloss is like magic. I think I'm going to order more of the product just in case it goes out of stock.

What more? Beautybar's bag was filled with Alterna products test samples and other goodies I loved. That way I can try their stuff and know for myself what suits me rather than randomly ordering. Thanks you guys!

By the way, the online store does deliver to countries from the MiddleEast region.

To order, visit the store at:

Sweet'n Cups

This new cupcake business has been doing really well it seems, mashallah. A couple of days ago, I wanted to order chocolate cupcakes from Sweet'n Cups online website. Its great that you can have your order done in the website similarly to's in that you choose from categories, write in your info, add date and timings, and submit. And they were very punctual!  Nice packaging, the box is very presentable, and I'm so thankful because I took them with me to my friend's ghabga tonight.  Back to the cupcakes, you should know there's only one kind offered by Sweet'n Cups and they're really yummy. They're goowy chocolate cupcakes topped with chocolate sauce and shaved chocolate (probably flake) and a malteser ball. When you bit into the piece, there seemed to be more sauce inside, or maybe moistness from the topped sauce. Either way they're really good and you should try them.

Let's Kiss & Makeup

There was a time when I used to put lots of makeup on. Don't get me wrong I'm not a heavy makeup user. The first phases I went through were kinda awful! When I look back at highschool, I'm like what was I thinking putting on that lipstick shade or foundation type! It didn't take long, by university I knew the basics and I looked good in the pictures thank God in contrast to the highschool pics I used to rip apart. This gave me more confidence. Changes were bound to happen when you followed fashion updates. I knew where I went wrong with the help of Cosmopolitan and my expert friends, who gave me really good tips (Everyone should ask friends for advice, the ones with good makeup taste, for how their makeup looks, they see things you don't!).

I dislike dark colors on both eyes and lips. Browns and nudes are my thing. Red lipstick is used to a minimum (2-3 times a year;p) when I have a tan or for occasions when it suited.

Cat eyes (no lower eye liner), mascara, light bronzer, and lip gloss is my thing now. Full eye makeup (again light brown tones) and pink lips are only used for dinners and formal gatherings.

This brings us to the video. I like this look inspired by Gossip Girl's Leigton Meester (yet again). It's easy to follow and no fuss simple. Try this makeup for an all natural look! Yes, you can look divine with minimal makeup on!

Olivia Oil

You don't have to like a person to be an admirer. That's the case when it comes to Olivia Palermo. I always looove the way she looks! I abhor her attitude towards others and her narcissism is another issue! I guess its the big bucks plus the amazing goodlooks!

I first saw Olivia, 23, in MTV reality TV series, The Hills spinoff, The City. She was Whitney Port's coworker in DVF (Diane von Furstenberg). I thought she really looked familiar! OMG! Leighton Meester! They could be sisters! And today, I found out that that Palermo has been the inspiration behing the role of Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl! No wonder!I bet this is old news to you guys! its new to me. I'm lagging in celebrity gossip. Not something I'm a fan of.

So it seems that this Palermo chick is New York's "it" girl and the biggest socialite around. She works in PR in DVF and she models. Her father is a real estate developer and her mom's a interior designer. Wow glamorous fam! She knows everyone worth knowing and goes everywhere worth going! What more? She has this model for a boyfriend! Gorgeooooooooooous!

Munching on Munch

I hosted a ghabga (Ramadan dinner gathering) in our tent.  The menu was made up of mainly of Munch's dishes. Saffron Chicken Skewers with Spicy Ketchup, Falafel & Labnah Fillo, and Milk Chocolate Pudding. The latter is a new dish that was introduced yesterday, which I immediately noticed on facebook and called to add to my order. They have 3 versions of the bread pudding: white, milk, and dark. I'm in love with the pudding especially the extra sauce of creamy milk chocolate brought along with it! The fillo was so creamy although really tiny. And for you spicy lovers the chicken was very very spicy!

Omelle is this new LA based shoe brand that I have just recently heard about. A girl wouldn't be a girl without any kind of addiction to shoes. Any shoes. And when they are elegant and stylish, you just have to get them! Whatever the cost even if it means the death of your feet like I always say. Who cares about a bleeding foot when its covered by gorgeous leather! The price you pay to look good!

Omelle has really captured my eye. Should be worn by every true fashionista. Yes they're a bit pricey. This fall collection's prices ranges from $695-1,195 (approx.200-340 KD)

Browns. Nudes. Leathers. Suede. Assymetrics. Booties. Unique wooden signiture heels. Eye catching clasps.

Goji Boutique Invitation

Goji Boutique, the online store that features exclusive designer brands, will be exhibiting their sale and fall collections at Barcode next week. Make sure not to miss!

My Wedding Album 1

I enjoy watching people's pictures as much as I enjoy capturing moments. I'm no amateur. Ever since I got my Canon Digital Rebel XTI professional camera in 2007 and I still haven't gotten any better in taking pictures. In every 700 photos taken, just 1-2 come out asthetically beautiful!

But a new passion surfaced by the beginning of this year. It's not something I practice but would love to try it someday.

Wedding photography. Engagement photography. Two beings in love and their love captured in the best possible ways. Unaware yet flawless and beautiful.

I have a long list of favorites, and I think I will be introducing two photographers in each post I write. I wouldn't be able to post the good pictures (some may be private and it doesn't feel right), so make the most of what I have added otherwise check out their websites and/or blogs.

1- Kathrine O'Brien
With an experience of 20 years as a photographer, O'Brien focuses on wedding, documentary, and portrait photography. By far she is my top favorite photographer!

2- Feather Love Photography

This is another favorite. Feather Love is owned by Noa Azoulay-Sclater, its photgrapher and designer. She does weddings, engagements, portraits, bands, and art photgraphy. Amazing effects.
I found this photo from Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag's Wedding that I thought they wouldn't mind me using (hopefully).

If I get married, I would love to model to such magnificent geniuses. Yes, I would want to cross continents to have such stills. Inshallah.

Berry Berry Good

Cranberry juice!

I dedicate this to my good friend, L.F.
She was the one who brought this great juice into my diet. She also makes sure both she and her family drink the juice daily.

It tastes a bit sour and a little sweet.

Substitute your KDD's mango, cocktail, apple in your fridge with Ocean Spray's Cranberry Juice(found in Sultan Center) and KDD's Cranberry Juice(which I like better than Ocean Spray).

Some people opt for a more "convenient" way of intaking the fruit by taking cranberry juice capsule twice a day.

1- Highly effective in the treatment of urinary tract, bladder, and kidney infections.

2- It's nutrients help protect you against heart disease.

3- Cranberry antioxidents help protect you against cancer (especially ovarian cancer)!

3- Prevents and aids in the breakdown of kidney stones.

4- Combats against plaque and gum diseases.

5- Cures colds and flues (it has vitamin C).

6- Strengthens bones and teeth ( its a good source of Calcium).

For the benefits to take effect:
Recommended intake of cranberry juice per day: Start with at least 1-3 glasses (500ml) thats equal to two KDD juices.
